PSC#84 Wonderful Washi!   Washi tape is a decorative masking tape traditionally made of rice paper.  It comes in lots of different patterns and sizes for a host of creative ideas.  It's a great way to add a little color and interest to your designs and once you get started using it there's no going back!    Washi can be used to create a fun patterned background, you can stick it to paper and cut out the printed images or die cut your own.     The challenge is not limited to cards - we'd love to see your page layouts, home decor, tags, and mixed media.   It's your choice, just be sure to use at least one Poppystamps image (stamp or die) on your project!

Need a little inspiration?  Here are some samples from our design team.  Want a closer look?   No worries.. we'll be featuring these projects on Wednesdays throughout the month, so you can see how each project was created.

We're trying something new this month !  We've asked a guest designer to join us to share even more creative ways to use your dies.  Please welcome our very first guest, Tenia Nelson.  When the Wonderful Washi Challenge was announced I knew she was the perfect choice because I consider her the Washi Queen.  I don't think I have ever seen a creation from her that didn't include a bit of washi tape - I consider it her trademark!

Hi there! How are you all? Kids back in school? A bit more free time to create? Let's look at one of the new Deco dies in the shop now. Art Deco has endless design possibilities! I used the Arched Deco Plate for a  card for a dear friend.

DSC_0013

I began by die cutting the plate, not twice but 3 times in purple, gold and aqua foil. I would suggest using your shim for a clean cut.

There are many ways to attach layers. My favorite is glue in a tiny pointed tipped bottle. You can use spray adhesive, or run the pieces through a Xyron machine. Because the cardstock and foiled stock is heavier, it keeps its shape while gluing. The glue dries quickly so you have to move along quickly, but you don't need to glue each and every piece.

After embossing the sentiment, I popped up the framed piece  with foam.

What do you do with intricate framed pieces? I love backing them with contrast color for an extra pop! Hopefully you'll give this a try, if you haven't done so already.

Have a great and crafty week!

Birthday Shaker
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0018

Hi there, Poppy Peeps! Nancy here, and I have a happy card for you today!

Birthday Celebrations call for a shaker, and Poppystamps has adorable images to get the party started!

DSC_0012_wm

Now, you know I love layers... the more the merrier. Throw in color, and we have 'party-time'! The shaker elements are from my stash. They match the ice cream cone flavors... orange, strawberry and lime.

Such a fun card, with plenty of 'happy'! The new Whittles are so festive! Check them out in the store. There's animals, and ice cream, food and frames.

A Summer Hug
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0026 2

I've been playing around with the slimline dies, Poppystamps has in the store, and love the Leafy Vines Slim Plate.

DSC_0013

My card today is for no one in particular, just a general 'Hugs' card. Who couldn't use a hug right now?

DSC_0018_wm

Lots of bright summer colors, and happy flowers to brighten someone's day!

DSC_0011

My cardstock began it's life in white, and was transformed with Distress Oxide Inks, blended. I did the reverse color combo before die cutting the leafy vine.

The Slimlines will fit any business size envelope, and mails with a regular stamp.

Hope you give a slimline a try, if you haven't attempted one yet.

Have a wonderful week, hope it's crafty!

Hello Summer
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0023

Summer's in full swing, and Poppystamps has some new alphabet dies that will help you make bright and happy summer cards!

DSC_0017_wm

I love creating a background from alphabet dies, and the new Marzipan Alphabet is bold and easy to cover the front of an A2 size card, or any size, for that matter.

DSC_0013

I put the letters on a piece of washi tape, and cut them out 5 times. (Don't forget the extra M!)

DSC_0015

There's a few ways to adhere your letters to the card, I chose to glue each one, which gives me time to eye how they're lining up.

DSC_0022

Hello is from another of the new alphabet dies in the store, and has a die for the back of the word, 'Hello'.

I used vellum to back my word, and partially inked the back in aqua, kind of an ombre look.

DSC_0018_wm

This card's going to a grandson. I added the Whittle sea creatures because he loves anything sea related! I think the card would look cute with ice cream or popsicle dies too!

Hope your summer's full of sunshine, and of course, happy crafting!

Challenge Reminder: Just Add Water
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0015

Hello! I have a challenge reminder for you. This month's inspiration is: 'Just Add Water'.

DSC_0016 3_wm

I chose to do an underwater scene with Open Studio's  fabulous new embossing folder.

I began with an aqua cardstock, embossed it, and added Perfect Pearls for a shimmer. Haven't played with my perfect pearls for a while. I just love the sheen it gives the tops of the embossing.

DSC_0012 3

Also added some copper pearling (very light handed with the copper!).

To finish my card, I stamped a message from Poppy's new Art Deco Stamp set, with a strip of the pattern paper at the top.

The rules are simple - just create a project following the theme, use at least one Poppystamps image or die, and link it up here.  The design we love best will receive our winner badge to proudly display on their blog, and one lucky random winner will receive a prize.  You don't have to have a blog to play.  You can link to any online gallery.   In fairness to other players, we reserve the right to remove entries that do not use at least one Poppystamps image.   We ask that you link a maximum of  3 entries to each challenge.   You are welcome to link your design to other challenges.  Grab our badge to post on your blog post or sidebar!
