Happy 4th of July
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0101

Hello, and Happy 4th of July!

Celebrating the USA today with a red white and blue watercolor and die cuts card.

DSC_0087

Using Poppy's new watercolor card stock, I spritzed the card with water, just touching the card with color in random places.

DSC_0088

Next, I added the blue. If there were puddles, I picked them up the a paper towel.

DSC_0090

I chose dies I thought looked like fireworks exploding in the sky, like Poppy's new, Brillant rings. Notice I left them together.

DSC_0093_wm

Once dry, I added my panel to a card front, and began adding my die cuts in red white and blue glitter card stock. It's really fun to play with your dies, using them in non traditional ways.

DSC_0098

Here I had to get a bit creative for my sentiment. Using Doodle Happy Birthday and Doodle Happy Easter dies,

I cut up the letters in the happy and easter to create U S A.

Here's hoping you have a happy and safe 4th of July!

Stenciling with Embossing Paste
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0086_wm

Greetings Poppy Peeps! Have you seen all the new stencils in the Poppystamps store? I'm here to show you a favorite way to use stencils. Maybe new to you, maybe a refresher. Hope it inspires you to use your stencils more.

DSC_0052

Poppystamps Leafy Jumble Stencil is a fun all over leaf pattern. I did 3 panels with this stencil using metallic silver embossing paste.

DSC_0049

I chose this panel and made 2 cards. First covering the card with Distress Inks, then laying down the stencil and sweeping on the paste with a craft knife. Now comes the hard part... waiting for it to dry!

DSC_0072

I picked the spot which showed the most overall blend of color and cut my circle.

DSC_0075

2 cards with one panel, this one will be a standard A2 card.

DSC_0078_wm

The circle was used inside this 5 x 5 square card.

DSC_0080_wm

All product will be listed below. Because this is a square, I love to create my own envelopes to go with it.

DSC_0094

So easy with a 1 2 3 Punchboard. And a great way to use up extra 2 sided paper from your stash! If you're like me, that stash is endless!

DSC_0085_wm

My A2 shaker card all set to send hugs to someone special.

DSC_0086_wm

And 2 hugs cards with one panel!

Hope you take a good long look at the stencils available now in the Poppystamps shop. And hope you were inspired to try a little paste with them! So many fun ways to enjoy crafting, aren't there? Have a great week!

Garden Variety Release Blog Blitz
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0195

Hello and welcome to Poppy's newest dies and stamps and papers and washi... well you get the idea, it's Blog Blitz time, and it's called, 'Garden Variety'. Win, win for you. A chance to win, and to see all the new, together with lots of inspiration and ideas.

DSC_0183

I'm showcasing 'Proper Brick House', a 3 piece die set, that allows you to be as detailed and creative as your paper crafting mind can take you! And the die set you could win. Take a look!

DSC_0203

The possibilities for being creative with this die are mind bending! I decided to go all out and use those tiny bricks on my house.

DSC_0187

I die cut the house 3 times, using 3 different colored card stock. Note: if you want most of the bricks to stay, add a sheet of printer paper behind your card stock. Also helps to have this handy dandy brush tool to quickly remove all those tiny bricks. One other note, I traced around the die, so I'd have a solid piece of a little bit darker pink to glue down my bricks. Same with the chimney.

DSC_0193_wm

If you love paper piecing with pattern, you're gonna love Memory Box's new paper packs!

DSC_0190

I gave my Proper Brick House a bit more dimension by adding fussy cut windows and door. You don't have to do this step, but wow, does it make that sweet house pop!

DSC_0199

No foam tape for my mini dwelling, just layer on layer, on layer!

Hugs Easel Card
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0108

Hi and welcome! One of the new die sets Poppystamps released this spring was the Adriana Pop Up Easel Set.

I've been oohing and awing over all the designers easel cards, and wanted to give it a go.

DSC_0115_wm

The set of dies has just about everything you need, but if you want to embellish further, there are coordinating dies you can add.

DSC_0099
I cut the pieces from various card stock colors, and used a decorators gilt to add gold. This gold gilt I have had for eons, and it's still usable! I found something similar for you on Amazon, if you like the effect: DecoArt, Gold ML02C-28 Metallic Lustre Wax, 1-Ounce, Rush, 1 oz. I just used my finger to apply the gold gild. Very easy, and it accentuates the lines on the die cut, and gives my card a bit of bling.

DSC_0101

All the pieces ready to assemble. You only apply glue to the fold strip, and the piece will fold flat to fit into an A2 sized envelope.

DSC_0128_wm

The easel is formed when the card top slides and stops on the bottom die cut.

DSC_0110

The inside reveals further greetings, a birthday wish.

DSC_0116

A sideview and peek to the inside.

DSC_0122

One last look at my easel card, this time photographed in the fairy garden, a gift from me to the grandchildren. Every year we add a piece or two. My easel card looks right at home nestled among tiny greens, and little boy fishing.

Hope you enjoyed my easel card, and are inspired to make one.

Stay well my friends!

Happy Memories
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0020

Greetings Poppy Peeps! I have a card to share with you using a wonderful sentiment stamp set Poppystamps recently released. I've paired my card's sentiment with a few new stencils too.

DSC_0011

Stencils are a super quick way to set your cards up for maximum sentiment showcase.  I used Poppystamps' Romantic Blooms stencil, but only on the corners of my A2 sized card. You'll notice I applied my ink in several colors with a small sponge dauber, blending and fading outward from the center of the blooms.

DSC_0012

I chose the sentiment 'Thinking of You' from Friendship and Kindness. This set has multiple sentiments, great for the inside of cards as well. By taping part of the words, you can use 2 colors, which is just what I did.

Happy is embossed in rose gold, while the rest of the sentiment is stamped, all by alternately taping and stamping.

DSC_0022

You can see the embossed Happy, and the rest of the sentiment in this photo.

DSC_0013_wm

Notice how the stenciling fades around the greeting, allowing the words to be the stand out.

You can also add stenciling to your envelope flaps. An elegant touch of personalization for your cards!

DSC_0017_wm

Aside for the sequins, it's a one layer mailer. I think the best cards to send!

Hope you found some inspiration today, and possibly a new way or two to use the new fabulous stencils in the shop! Stay well, friends!

Bleaching Cardstock
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0116.

Greetings Poppy Friends! I have a pair of square cards for you today.

Crafting cards during Shelter in Place is such a wonderful way to let creativity bloom. I haven't done a square card in forever, and because I wanted to showcase the Adriana Square Frame, it seemed a fun, not often done choice.

My card base is 5 1/2 x 5 1/2". And I cut my Adriana frame from colored card stock. Then comes the fun...

DSC_0072

I 'painted' certain elements of the die cut with bleach. Within seconds you can watch the color lift. It's always a surprise to see what color emerges. Note: (Extra care and caution using bleach)

DSC_0073

I doubled the die cut frames, turned it to form a diamond shape, and embossed my sentiment on vellum. You can see the back of the assembled frame, and the sentiment in the window. I also added foam to pop up the frame.

DSC_0086_wm

The final die cut element is added to some MB designer paper (listed below), and I cut a frame from the new Washi tape to place on the frame window.

DSC_0098_wm

Lots of time to do several of these frames, and play with the bleach technique, so I created the same layout with different colors for a second card.

DSC_0112

With this card I added color to the berries with copics.

DSC_0085

I made envelopes to accommodate the 5 1/2" card size with my We R Memory Keepers 123 Punch guide, something I use often with non normal sized cards.

Hope you enjoyed a bit of fun with the bleach technique, and are willing to give it a try. Another tip for you: Not all cardstock reacts to bleach. Most darker colors really react and contrast. I was surprised to see the melon turn to pale yellow.

DSC_0113

So glad you stopped by today,  and hope you're enjoying some of the time as we all stay safe. Be well, friends!
