Midas Touch - Challenge Reminder by Rachel Duong

IMG_7441

Hi there! It's Rachel here with an opulent, rich and fantastical card to remind you about our Poppystamps monthly challenge. The theme for January is Midas Touch, where everything turns to gold!  The "Nordic Joyful Elf",  encased in gold reminds me of the talented entertainers I've watched in the city that looked just like him.

To enter the challenge, create a card using at least one Poppystamps item and add a little or a lot of gold embellishments. Link your design to the challenge on the Poppystamps challenge blog and to your Instagram, blog and facebook pages.

To create this card, I die cut the elf out of gold mirror paper and the clothing accents in gold glitter paper. I adhered the pieces together once I decided how I wanted my elf to appear. I love the combination of sparkles and glitter reflecting and playing off one another.

Next I die cut the tree stump and mushrooms out of heavy white cardstock. I painted the pieces using Prang watercolors. Then I glued them onto the black cardbase.

I splattered gold metallic, acrylic paint over the entire card.  I covered the elf with paper to keep from getting hit with too much paint.

I decided to have fun with the birthday wishes sentiments. I hope I didn't add too many! These Open Studio extra thick gold foiled labels fit nicely on the card.

Last but not least, I added gold Fairy Jewels to the card.IMG_7435Please join in the challenge and have fun as you create your gold masterpiece! Until next time, Happy New Year and I look forward to many crafty adventures ahead!

The Candles Are Lit
by Rachel Duong

IMG_7721The candles are lit and we're ready to eat! Hello, it's Rachel here with a birthday card featuring Poppystamps latest release "Basic Birthday Candles" and "Happy Birthday Streamer Script" die sets. You might wonder where the cake is-- thats for another day. IMG_7715

To create this card I chose three coordinating papers in shades of green from the "Birthday Fun Pack" printed paper for the Poppystamps "Basic Birthday Candles".  I die cut the flames with 2 shades of gold glitter.  (The paper is listed below.) I reinforced each piece with another layer underneath.

Next I die cut the "Scallop Pinpoint Rings" in a heavy vellum and white cardstock. Then I trimmed the patterned green paper slightly smaller than an A2 size and glued it onto a white cardbase.

I arranged the candles to look as if i just set them down. I glued the flames to the candles.  I die cut the birthday sentiment out of white paper and then the outline in heavy vellum. I used dimensionals under the sentiment to pop it up.IMG_7713I adhered the sentiment covering the lower portion of the candles.

Finally I placed Fairy drops randomly on the card. They look like bubbles! The clear embellishments enhance the design without competition.

This card is somewhat of a monochromatic style. The various shades of green and the neutral white makes it fit into the category minus the flames on the candles.

IMG_7730Birthday cards are the most popular cards to make, and such a happy occasion too! It's fun to experiment with color and unplanned, slightly scattered arrangements. Until next time, have a fantastic day with all the things you love to do! Don't forget to check out the Poppystamps birthday release full of sweet treats and goodies.
