Feline Good
by Kim Singdahlsen

4.13.21 Feline Good BL

In my area of the country, we recently had a record-setting blizzard - but then we had record-setting heat!  My indoor cats were thrilled with the open windows and ran from room to room watching birds and squirrels. They spent quite a bit of time at the front door watching the birds on the porch light until I realized I should shoo the birds away before they decided it was a good place for a nest (although my cats would have loved it!)

So when I sat down to make this card and was flipping through my stash, the Grand Madison Window caught my attention because I knew I had a Whittle Cat and some Chirping Birds to re-create the scene in my own home!

I cut three of the windows and layered them for dimension.  Outside the window I added the Swaying Bird and some Chirping Birds (although in brighter colors than we see here in Colorado).  It seemed a little empty so I flipped through my stash again and saw the greenery that is part of the Fern and Easy Pop Up Easel Set.  I cut about a quarter of it and then trimmed it off to fit behind the window and I have a perfect green background.  (As a side note, I adore all of the easel sets.  This one is especially nice because it makes a fabulous easel, but there are also gorgeous flowers, butterflies, and now greenery for my window - all of which I have used by themselves on other cards.  I love dies that have multiple uses!)

If you look closely, I added embossed lines about 1/2" apart on the background just to give it some texture. My strutting Whittle Cat led me to the sentiment.  This cat was definitely "feline good" so I was thrilled when I saw that sentiment in Whittle Love!

The expression on that cat's face is just perfect.  Cats tend to look just like that - a bit haughty and definitely feline good! And if their food bowls are full and there are a few birds singing outside the window, life is perfect! (Of course, the same is true for me!)

A Little Bit of Holiday Cheer
by Michele K. Henderson

IMG_7593-wm

Hello Friends!

Today I am sharing a little bit of holiday cheer, one in a little cup, and one in a little envelope! I have created two sweet tags that will make your holiday gifts feel festive and bright! Take a closer look.

IMG_7590-wm

The first tag is a little holiday kitty in a cup, with a few festive trimmings. The second tag is a little note from sunny Florida, where we are sending warm holiday wishes your way. Both of these tags are so easy breezy too. Just cut out your favorite elements and assemble a fun freestyle collage of holiday fun.

IMG_7580-wm

I used a baby blue for the tag background, wrapped in a white trim. I wanted a little splash of a few non-traditional holiday colors, like deep rosy pinks, lime greens, and teals.

IMG_7583-wm

I wanted both of these tags to feel fresh and fun, and to show hoe we celebrate the season down here where the sun shines all year long!

CAS June Challenge Reminder
by Michele K. Henderson

IMG_6947-wm

Hello Crafty Friends!

I am so glad that you have stopped by today! It's time to say Hello Summer, and what a better way to do it than by playing along with our Poppystamps June Challenge, CAS!

Cleanandsimple

CAS is short for Clean and Simple, and CAS is just the way I love to create in the hot, sticky Florida summer weather! I made a super easy breezy CAS card that reminds me a lot of summer, when the flowers are wild and high and the bright color is everywhere! Take a look!

IMG_6943-wm

I started with a clean and crisp white card base, but unfortunately, my photos all have a little yellowish tint to them this week -- it's been raining like a monsoon all week! I love to photograph during the day when my house is filled with bright, natural Florida sunlight, but now the skies are dark and stormy. When I create CAS cards, I love to use bright colors and extra bright white card stock too.

IMG_6938-wm

I cut out the Pointed Rectangle Frame in white, which makes a nice border, and then the Hello Outline in green and white. I then cut a few flower silhouettes from Tall Sketch Daisies, and played with the arrangement to vary the size of the daisies.

IMG_6940-wm

Then I added the Peek a Boo Kitty. Whenever I make any of the Peek a Boo animals, I always add a piece on the back for the eyes and the nose by cutting very tiny pieces of paper and gluing it to the back. You can see how I arranged and glued the tiny daisy stems on to the Hello Outline. Here is my "designer tip" for working with lots of die cuts, like I love to do: pay attention to the tiny details, like borders, edges, how the pieces fit together, what is showing or sticking out. It's those finishing touches that can really make your projects pop!

IMG_6941-wm

Once my pieces were all assembled, I just lifted the whole cut and gluesd it onto my card base. I said it was pretty easy breezy! There's my Peek a Boo Kitty popping out behind the "e."

PSblogChallenge-2

Now it's your turn! We can't wait to see what you'll create! Simple create a CAS card using at least one Poppystamps die or stamp set, and link it up on our Poppystamps linky to the right. Think easy breezy summer fun!

Whittle-Kitty

My card features the new Whittle Cutie Cat - and that's today's prize too!  This is a nice large die (as shown on my A2 size card), with detailed cut lines.   I gave mine more detail by adding a calico pattern with Copic Markers.  The cut lines make it easy to slip a piece of scrap paper over areas you don't want colored.

Whittle-Kitty-Three
My Whittle Cutie Cat has made a nest of the Adriana Wreath cut from white card stock and layered over new pretty papers from Memory Box called Garden Folly.   The 6" pad is eye candy with pretty prints in bold bright colors.

Whittle-Kitty-Two
The sentiment is from the Whittle Love Sentiments Clear Stamp set.  It's got lots of cute sentiments that would work well with this die cut.

Whittle-Kitty-One
And now the part you've been waiting for!  Your chance to win the Whittle Cutie Cat die!

Kitty's Secret Garden
by Michele K. Henderson

IMG_6918-wm

Hello Crafty Friends!

The past few days, it has been raining like cats and dogs, which is making everything super lush and green. That's how I know summer is right around the corner. Today I am sharing a card I created with summer in mind, and of course, it needs to have a kitty!

IMG_6913-wm

This was a super fun card to make too. I started out by selecting this pretty pattern paper from Memory Box's Springtime Bouquet 6 x 6 paper pack and used it as my background. I was thinking lush, green garden, focusing on shades of green, crisp white, and a little light tan and grey. I then cut the Adriana Square Frame in white and positioned it to make a diamond shaped window. Then I cut an assortment of Garden Leaves and Berries, and Orchard Leaves, in my color palette.

IMG_6919-wm

One of the things I love about Poppystamps is how easy it is to add and layer lots of die cuts from lots of different sets. There are no rules, so you can add as many leaves and as any colors as you like. Make a summer frame, or a fall frame, or a frosty white winter frame with berries, because it will ALL look beautiful!

IMG_6911-wm

Once my leaves and berries were cut and loosely organized, I then cut the Peek a Boo Kitty in light grey, and the word MEOW from the Poetic Uppercase Alphabet. I cut two letters each, one of green and one in black, then using a pair of craft tweezers, carefully layered the green letter on top of the black letter to create a "shadow" effect.

I know I just said there are "no rules" in design, but let me give you one of my most important design tips. Always think about the way color flows and sits. For example, in this project, I balanced the colors. If I used a dark green leaf at the top, I added one at the bottom. Think in groups of two and three. Once all my greens and tans and greys were balanced, I added one bright pop of blue from the tiny bird from the Greenhouse Potted Plants Sidekick Frame & Stencil Set. Once I was happy with my design, I glued it all in place with craft tweezers (which I use for EVERYTHING crafty), and added a few tiny foam circle pop dots, cut in half and quarters to fit and prop my frame, cat, and a few leaves up while still remaining hidden.

Summer is right around the corner, and so are the brand new bright and beautiful garden designs from Poppystamps! What will you create?

Thanks so much for joining us today!
