Poppy Stamps Blog Post 6

Hello Crafty Friends, Candice here sharing another new release product from the Garden Variety Blog Blitz. Today we are giving away a the new Leafy Garden Border die. See the details at the end of the blog post on how you can win.

Today's card is clean and simple. To get started, die cut the Leafy Garden Border die from a piece of black cardstock. Be sure to place the die near the edge of the paper, leaving a bit of a border.

Poppystamps blog post 6.8.1

Next grab your Distress Oxide inks in Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon and Dusty Concord. Sponge these inks onto a piece of white cardstock using an ink blending tool, starting with Wild Honey. Next sponge on the Ripe Persimmon Distress Oxide Ink making sure to smooth the transition of colors so there are no harsh lines between the two colors. Lastly, sponge on the Dusty Concord Distress Oxide Ink, ensuring a smooth transition blend with the Ripe Persimmon ink.

Poppystamps blog post 6.8.2

Now die cut the inked panel with the Stitch Rectangle Frames die. I use this die to create a stitched rectangle border on my cards. Next Reassemble the frame and center panel together. I apply a few pieces of scotch tape to the back of the paper when reassembling. Using a heat gun, dry your inked background panel. This should only take a few seconds to do.

Poppystamps Blog Post 6.8.5

Now rotate your panel 90 degrees and add the Leafy Garden Border to the bottom edge using some liquid glue. Next stamp the sentiment from the Memory Box Peony Garden Corner stamp set with Versamark ink. Apply white fine detail embossing power to the stamped sentiment and heat set it with your heat gun. Finally adhere your card front onto an A2 size card base.

Blog Blitz Flip/Swing Card
by Jennifer Svare

Circle Fold Card 2

Hello!  It's blog blitz time again and so many wonderful new products!  Lots of prizes being given away so make sure to check the end of this post for details on how you can win!  I'll be giving away the ever-so-verstile Circle Fold Frame.  This die set creates bases for so many types of cards... gatefold, window, shaker... and today a flip/swing card.

Circle Fold Card

Flip Card 2

I did a video tutorial for an Oval Fold Frame flip card, but this one is even simpler!  I am including the instructions here on the blog in written form today as requested in the comments.  There is only one score line to create, and this card goes together so fast.  This also works with the Oval Fold Frame. The only difference is the Oval Fold Frame die is an A2-sized card, and this one is square.  The width is the same for both.  It's just the length that is different.

Die cut the Circle Fold Frame using lightweight card stock.  Cut a second piece of lightweight card stock that measures 4.25" x 6".  (If using the Oval Fold Frame, the piece is cut to 5.5" x 6".)

Circle Fold 1

With the far scored line facing the right, we're going to only use the left side of the circle frame for this project.  Cut just to the left of the score line so that our piece will fit nicely on the back without running into a fold.  Set it aside for now.

Circle Fold 7Using the Circle Fold Frame, line it up with the die as shown in the photo below.  Make sure the scored line facing down toward the extra length.

Circle Fold 2

Run it through the die cutting machine with the top plate not covering the bottom of the die.  This way, it won't cut but will remain long.

Circle Fold 3

Once it is cut, score at 3" as shown below:

Circle Fold 15Turn the long piece over to the back side.  The circle will be toward the right side when it is upside down.  Place the half frame created in Step 1 to the right back side of the card as shown below.  Before gluing, make sure it fits and will still fold nicely.  This is why we wanted to cut just a tiny bit off from the scored line.  Once it fits, glue it on.  This creates just a little more stability and weight to the back side.

Circle Fold 11With the card still facing the back side, cut a strip that measures 4.25" x 6/8".  (If using the Oval Fold Frame, the strip will measure 5.5" x 6/8").  Center and glue the the strip.  This is what the circle will be adhered to.  Since it is also glued to the card, this is what will create the flip effect.   If the top or bottom edge is a little longer than needed, trim that off after gluing it so that it cannot be seen from the front.

Circle Fold 4

Glue the circle that was created by the die to the strip.  Repeat on the other side so that two circles are glued back-to-back.  Both of these circles were automatically created when the die was cut.

Circle Fold 5

Create the fold lines as shown below.

Circle Fold 6

Decorate with patterned paper, stamps, or anything you would like!  Sky is the limit here!  For my background, I used a sheet from the new Garden Folly 6x6 paper pad.  To make it simple to place the pieces, I die cut a 4.25" x 6" piece, and die cut it using the technique shown above.  Because glued paper does not like to fold nicely, I cut out the small gaps for the fold lines and adhered the patterned paper to the card base.

Circle Fold 8
I went around the edges of the patterned paper with Distress Oxide Ink to create a shadow border.  Using the Friendship and Kindess stamp set, I stamped a sentiment onto the largest Brilliant Ring, which is the exact same size as the main circle of the Circle Fold Frame.  This created the inside sentiment to go along with the gift card.

Circle Fold 10Also, I'm creating a gift card holder.  As shown in the photo above, I'm using the smaller of the Rounded Blooms (white) with two of the matching nested dies from the Echo Blossom set.  The black one will create the backing for the Rounded Bloom flower, and the vellum will create a subtle background for the flower.

Circle Fold 9

The flower is only partially glued to the card base.  This will create a place for the gift card to slide and "wedge" between the flower and the card base.  For extra security, I'll run a small strip of removable adhesive as well.  Because my gift card does not match the card, I created a simple sleeve using a pearly-white paper, and used the smallest Echo Blooms to create a notch, and a frame for the notch.

Circle Fold 12

For the front of the card, the main focal point is going to be 3 layers of the Hugs Heart glued on top of each other to create dimension, glued onto an Echo Blossom background. To create the Echo Blossom Background, I used the slightly smaller circle die that also comes with the Circle Fold Frame to create a white mat for the focal point of the card.  I did this by cutting one of the blooms out of a piece of mylar to create a stencil.  I then stenciled in a darker border of the Distress Oxide.

Here's my set-up.  I have the stencil (negative and positive space showing, but I just used the bloom itself).  I have a piece of card stock with the bloom cut out just to hold it in place while I colored it.  Finally, I have a piece of scrap paper to save my craft mat from an inky mess.

Circle Fold 13I love creating stenciled with nested dies, because there are so many techniques that can be done with stenciling the layers.

Circle Fold 14

Garden Variety Release Blog Blitz

Hello and welcome to Poppy's newest dies and stamps and papers and washi... well you get the idea, it's Blog Blitz time, and it's called, 'Garden Variety'. Win, win for you. A chance to win, and to see all the new, together with lots of inspiration and ideas.

DSC_0183

I'm showcasing 'Proper Brick House', a 3 piece die set, that allows you to be as detailed and creative as your paper crafting mind can take you! And the die set you could win. Take a look!

DSC_0203

The possibilities for being creative with this die are mind bending! I decided to go all out and use those tiny bricks on my house.

DSC_0187

I die cut the house 3 times, using 3 different colored card stock. Note: if you want most of the bricks to stay, add a sheet of printer paper behind your card stock. Also helps to have this handy dandy brush tool to quickly remove all those tiny bricks. One other note, I traced around the die, so I'd have a solid piece of a little bit darker pink to glue down my bricks. Same with the chimney.

DSC_0193_wm

If you love paper piecing with pattern, you're gonna love Memory Box's new paper packs!

DSC_0190

I gave my Proper Brick House a bit more dimension by adding fussy cut windows and door. You don't have to do this step, but wow, does it make that sweet house pop!

DSC_0199

No foam tape for my mini dwelling, just layer on layer, on layer!

Now for the fun part: If you'd like a chance to win Proper Brick House, Comment!

Whittle-Kitty

My card features the new Whittle Cutie Cat - and that's today's prize too!  This is a nice large die (as shown on my A2 size card), with detailed cut lines.   I gave mine more detail by adding a calico pattern with Copic Markers.  The cut lines make it easy to slip a piece of scrap paper over areas you don't want colored.

Whittle-Kitty-Three
My Whittle Cutie Cat has made a nest of the Adriana Wreath cut from white card stock and layered over new pretty papers from Memory Box called Garden Folly.   The 6" pad is eye candy with pretty prints in bold bright colors.

Whittle-Kitty-Two
The sentiment is from the Whittle Love Sentiments Clear Stamp set.  It's got lots of cute sentiments that would work well with this die cut.

Whittle-Kitty-One
