Hello, Poppystamps friends! I am thrilled to be back on the blog today sharing this adorable card featuring lots of new products! The Dainty Mushrooms are trying to steal the show, but the real star is the new Cottage Terrarium! This terrarium die set is so versatile and would be great for creating scenes for the different seasons. I knew that I wanted to use these adorable mushrooms, and they are perfectly sized for this scene.
I started by die cutting all of my pieces from white card stock. I grabbed pieces from several other new die sets from the Nordic Winter Collection. The center stem with leaves comes from the Mini Forest Plants set, and the flowers come from the Simple Floral Bundle. Once my pieces were cut, I used my Distress Inks to color them. You can see that I very lightly inked up the edges of the jar with light blue ink (Tumbled Glass). I used the following colors for the leaves, flowers and mushrooms: Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness, Saltwater Taffy, Worn Lipstick, Spiced Marmalade, Carved Pumpkin, Fossilized Amber, and Frayed Burlap. As for the lid, I did have a small scrap of this fun silver card stock in my stash - it was just big enough for what I needed!
For the "ground" or dirt, I cut a second piece of white card stock using the main terrarium die. I then fussy cut my own hill shape. I also trimmed one of the sides so that this piece fits just inside the jar, just like real dirt would if it was inside of a jar! I inked up this piece with some brown Distress Inks, including Gathered Twigs and Scorched Timber. I assembled the pieces for the mushrooms, adding an extra piece of dark brown card stock behind to fill in the eyes. As for the little white dots on the mushrooms, those are actually die cut "leftover" pieces. I often keep small round white cutouts in a dish on my desk because you never know when you're going to need them! The larger white dots on the large mushroom are cutouts from the Nordic Floral Plate.
To assemble the scene, I first glued all of the stems down to the jar shape. I then added the "dirt" piece on top of those. Next, I glued the mushrooms on. I did add a piece of foam tape on the back of the large mushroom that was hanging over the dirt, since there was quite a bit of dimension at this point. Finally I glued my lid on, and I tied my string around the top, just under the lid.
For final assembly, I created an A2 card base using the new Leaf Sprout 8.5x11 paper from Memory Box. I glued a white panel on top of the card base, and then on top of that, I glued the outer scalloped frame from the Double Scalloped Stitch Frames. I popped my terrarium scene up on foam tape, and then I added my sentiments, which I stamped in brown ink. As a finishing touch, I added several little white gel pen dots around the dirt.
I hope this card brings a smile to your face. I had so much fun making it! Thanks for joining us today.
