Vintage Pastry Shoppe
by Allison Frazier

Flat shoppe
Hello, Poppystamps friends! I am really excited to be joining the design team and posting my first project on the blog. As soon as I saw the Corner Shoppe Pop Up Easel Set, I immediately envisioned this sweet pastry shop with old world charm. With the help of several of the other die sets in this Corner Shoppe collection, I was able to achieve my vision! I do have a video on my YouTube channel showing how I made this card. You can CLICK HERE to see the video!

The first part of creating the card is cutting the large piece that functions as the easel. I cut this from white card stock and scored it on the two resulting score lines. I set this piece aside. I cut the main store front and the stripes for the awning from black card stock. I cut the scalloped base of the awning from both white and pink card stock - isn't it so cute layered like that? I cut the door window frame from pink card stock. I cut the sidewalk from white card stock and ink blended it with a couple shades of gray ink. You will notice a pink frame around the main window that is not part of the main die set. This is actually a frame from the Dessert Stand set that happens to fit the window perfectly! You may also notice a white frame around the door. I really wanted to make the door stand out from the rest of the store, so I actually created this frame using partial die cutting. The final piece from the main set is the white base that will hold the shoppe itself and then attach to the easel. I blended a little bit of yellow ink on this panel behind the windows so that it would look like the lights are on.

I cut all the pastries from white card stock and used different colors of Distress Ink to color them. These pastries came from the various die sets in this collection. I cut the cupcakes from the Dessert Stand set. I cut the little tiny cakes on the top shelf, as well as the larger pastries on the middle shelf, from the Birthday Treats set. And speaking of shelves, I got these from the Flower Pot Shelves set. For the cake and candles on the table in front of the store, I used the Birthday Celebrations set. And for that little table, I used the Dessert Stand set. I really had fun using little bits and pieces from all of these sets!

Once I had everything cut out and colored, assembly was a breeze with some liquid glue. I did assemble everything onto that white base first, and then I glued that whole assembled piece onto the scored flap of the easel card. I then created some sentiments, both of which came from the Birthday Banners stamp and die set. I stamped the "It's Cake Time" onto two separate strips with black ink and then cut the pieces apart to get the individual words. I glued these onto the door, with one of them covering what I believe is a mail slot from the main shoppe die. Maybe "Cake Time" is the name of the store? It could be a cute name, but it certainly is a cute sentiment. I also stamped the "Happy Birthday" sentiment onto white card stock, and then mounted this onto a larger black strip. This sentiment is glued on the inside of the card and acts as a stopper for the easel.

One last detail to add was a door handle. There is an indentation of a door handle from the main shoppe die, but it is too dark to see on black card stock. I decided that one of the dies that creates icing for a tiny cake could perhaps pass as a door handle, if turned on its side. I don't think it would keep all of those pastries safe from hungry thieves, but I do think the functionality is there - haha. The final test for this adorable card was to make sure it fit into my A2 envelope, and of course it fit beautifully! This card is ready to send to our little niece who will be turning 4 - notice the number of candles on the cake.

I am so pleased with how this card turned out. I hope it brings a smile to your face! Thank you so much for joining us today.
