See You Later, Alligator
by Allison Frazier
Hello, Poppystamps friends! Today, I am sharing this adorable card featuring the new Whittle Tropical Gator Kit. Although this kit can be used all on its own, I thought it would be fun to incorporate some other Poppystamps goodies.
I love plaid paper, and I also love how the Double Diamond Lattice Plate lines up with the diagonal lines of this particular plaid. I pulled this plaid from an older Memory Box pad called "Madras Plaid Blue and Violet". There are some very similar blue and green diagonal plaid patterns in the newer "Anemone Plaid" paper pad. I simply cut a piece of the plaid paper to 4.25" x 5.5" and glued it to a white A2 card base. I then layered two of the Double Diamond Lattice die cuts (using white card stock) on top.
I used the alligator die from the kit to cut some green card stock, and then I added some shading with a darker green ink. I also added the teeth, of course! The same die cuts the other two alligators, as well, so those little guys are waiting to be added to a future card.
I cut the tree trunk and coconuts from two different shades of brown card stock. I cut the branches from green card stock, again adding shading with some green ink. I assembled the tree with some liquid glue. I like leaving the ends of branches and leaves loose, as that creates the look of dimension. But, I did double up the very top branch (on the lower left) just to add some actual dimension.
To separate my simple scene from the plaid background, I used the Double Scalloped Stitched Frames, which I cut from white card stock. I used the middle size frame from this set. I cut a piece of blue card stock to fit behind my frame, and I stamped the "Later, Gator" sentiment from the kit. This stamp is actually the full sentiment on one line, so I did partial stamping in order to get the words onto two separate lines. I stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I then glued this blue panel onto the back of the scalloped frame. Once that was done, I popped it up on my card base with foam tape and glued the tree and gator on top. I love how the gator's tail wraps around the tree!
I am really pleased with how this card turned out. I actually made this for my son to open on his way to summer camp, so the sentiment was just perfect! I hope this card brings a smile to your face. Thanks for joining us today!
