A Floral Heart with Love
by Janet Katz
I wanted to make a very special Valentine for a dear relative who is suffering from some dementia. I saw a design on Pinterest by Zsoka Marko and used elements of that in this card design. First, I cut the scalloped heart from the Vintage Scalloped Heart die set from white cardstock. Next, I cut out a lot of flowers from heavy white cardstock using the following sets: Little Posie Layered Flowers, Little Layered Asters, Lucky Layered Flowers, Layered Pointy Petals, and the Floral Vase Pop Up Easel die set.
I colored all the flowers with alcohol ink markers. I used the leaves from the Floral Vase Pop Up Easel and cut them from gray cardstock matching the background. I arranged all the leaves on the white heart and glued them down, then layered the flowers on top to emphasize the heart shape as best I could. As you can see in the photos, I played around with the flower arrangement quite a bit before deciding where to adhere them.
For the background, I took a piece of 80lb gray cardstock and spritzed it with water on front and back so the fibers would bend well. I ran this through the Stunning Mandala 3D embossing folder by Memory Box (it's so beautiful). I trimmed the edges and layered it onto a blush pink card base. I glued the floral heart at the center of the mandala and used a computer printed sentiment popped up on the card. Finally, I added liquid epoxy dots around the heart.
I was really pleased with how it turned out. The gray background makes the colors stand out so well. It's already on it's way to a special person.
I hope your February is allowing time to relax and craft.
