A Christmas Tag and Reindeer Treat Holder
by Janet Katz
The new Whittle Forest Reindeer Kit has so much to offer. Here are two projects I made with it:
While the kit dies are a blast to mix and match, don't overlook the tiny little stamp set that comes with the kit. On it is a tiny tree along with an outline of that tree. I put the two to work on a store-bought white tag with a gold hole reinforcer. I pulled together a rainbow of dye ink pads and stamped a row of colorful trees in rainbow order on the long edge of the tag. Next, I used black ink to stamp the outline on top of the colorful trees.
I purposefully offset the outline to give it a modern edge. I have recently seen a lot of tags that use a layer of vellum over a cardstock layer. I cut a piece of vellum cardstock (you can buy this heavyweight vellum on Amazon or at many online craft retailers) to the same dimensions as the tag and then stamped a sentiment from the Gilded Christmas Wishes stamp set in black ink. With a little more time, I could have heat embossed the sentiment in black. I punched a hole in the vellum tag and attached the two with a deep pink grosgrain ribbon and cinched that with some teal and white baker's twine. This took just a few minutes to put together.
For my reindeer treat holder, I started with a piece of 2" x 5.75" kraft cardstock, I scored it at 2.75" and then at 3" to provide a .25" gusset for my chocolate treat square.
I used a corner rounder punch to round the corners. I used a little slot punch to punch a rectangular hole for the ribbon. Next, I cut a 1.75" x 2.25" piece from a pale blue polka-dotted paper. Then I used one of the dies that came with the Gilded Christmas Wishes stamp and die set to cut a tag shape from a dusty navy blue cardstock. A circle punch would have worked for this piece also. I die cut my reindeer head from brown cardstock, the nose from red cardstock, and the hat from the Memory Box Christmas Jolly 6 x 6 paper pad (PP1019.) I layered it all together and attached it to the kraft base keeping the hole at the top. Finally, I stamped in black ink on white cardstock and cut out the "Cheers my deer" sentiment that comes with the kit and adhered it below the deer head. I folded it up at the score lines and slipped my treat inside (a little double stick tape on the back of the treat wrapper will keep it from sliding out). I finished it with a small piece of white grosgrain ribbon cinched with both blue and white baker's twine and linen thread.
'Tis the season to stretch your craft supplies, dies and stamps to make fun gifts for family and friends.

Hi Janet, I love these tags, I adore how you have offset the tree outline from the coloured solid tree stamp, and the Whittle Reindeer is so so cute, especially with the hat on.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
