Stenciled Baby Kittens! - 3 Cards, 1 Die Set
by Sphoorti
Hello Poppy Peeps!
I'm back with more kitty cards! For the last three posts that I had (Hello Kitties, Kittens All Around, and Baby Kittens), I cut out SO. MANY. KITTENS. For the most part, I kept using little scraps of paper I had to die cut the kittens because I wanted to use up the scraps (and feel like I'm doing my best to protect the planet). But when I ran out of scraps, I used a piece of card stock and I realized I could use that piece as a stencil! And let me tell ya, once I had that now-a-stencil piece, it got the creative juices flowing and I made three cards total with it.
Card # 1:
The first card I made was pretty straightforward - I just ink-blended through the stencil with some distress oxide inks (Twisted Citron, Lucky Clover, Blueprint Sketch, and Wilted Violet). Then, I used the stencil again to cover it with some Versamark ink and heat embossed it with some clear embossing powder. This was so that the color-blended kitties were "protected" against further inking that was upcoming.
Then, I took a Black Soot distress ink pad and ran it all over the card panel - direct to paper. I wanted everything to be stark black so that the kitties stand out. Since the kitties have a coat of clear embossing, they resist the black ink and we end up with the really cool glow-in-the-dark effect like so:
I hot foiled the "You are amazing" sentiment from the PSF804 You Are Amazing Poe Script Greetings Hot Foil Plate and Dies and adhered it to the middle of the card.
I felt like something was missing, so I asked my friend, Judy, what else I could do. She suggested putting gems as collars for the kitties. I didn't have tiny gems, so I used a glue pen and drew in some dots and then used deco foil for that shiny effect. It was hard because the glue kept coming off of the glossy kittens, but I kept at it. I was much happier after the collars were dotted in. What do you think? I loved it! This woman is brilliant, I tell ya! Funnily, at first glance, she thought the dots were eyes! I guess I could have gone that way too, I would have just needed to use fewer dots. Not sure how I feel about four-eyed mutant kittens.
Card # 2
This one was my favorite of these three! I used the same stencil I used on the previous card with the Baby Kittens cut out of it, but instead of distress ink blending, I used some Transfer Gel Duo paste and applied it through the stencil to a plain piece of card stock. After it dried (I gave it four days because I did not want the paste to smear while going through heat and pressure), I used some deco-foil and ran the panel through my laminator.
It was absolutely magical! I couldn't stop staring at it! It also has a bit of 3-D effect because I used a thick layer of the Duo Gel so, if you run your fingers over the kitties, you get some major ASMR! I recorded a video of the card to show how gorgeous the shine is. Check it out here: https://youtube.com/shorts/0Mht6LO0PeU
I used the PSF807 Birthday Wishes Poe Script Hot Foil Plate and Dies to hot foil the "Hello" sentiment and applied it to the middle of the card panel that had the foiled kitties.
I still felt like something was missing, so I pulled out my favorite tool in the craft room which makes everything better - Diamond Dust! I took some dry adhesive and applied it to the card base and sprinkled the diamond dust all over it and burnished it in.
I really liked how this card turned out and sent it to someone who is a kitty lover, and follows the PoppyStamps blog and posts really sweet comments on all of our posts. (Shout out to Patricia Howarth! Thank you SO much for all your engagement and encouragement!)
Card # 3:
I'll be honest, this was my least favorite of these three cards. I had the leftover stencil with texture paste from the previous card I made and I didn't want it to go to waste. So, I foiled it using some deco foil and ran it through my laminator.
I decided to make it a shaker card, so I used the frame from the 2474 Double Scalloped Stitched Frames craft die with some foam tape and filled the shaker well with some confetti and seed beads.
I used the PSF807 Birthday Wishes Poe Script Hot Foil Plate and Dies to hot foil the "Hello" sentiment and applied it to the middle of the card panel and mounted the panel to the card base and called it done.
Thoughts? Questions? Epiphanies? Which card did you like best? Please do let me know! I love to hear from you! Thank you for sticking with me through the end of this very long post! Be back soon!
