Jaw-some Sharks
by Kim Singdahlsen
There is a odd ritual at this time of the year that's apparently been going on for 34 years - an entire week of television shows about sharks. My youngest son is home for a few weeks before his senior year of college and there hasn't been a day this week that I haven't walked into the family area and he and/or my husband have not been glued to the TV. With apologies to any fans reading this, I can't see the attraction, but of course, I'd rather be making cards than watching how swimming pigs and sharks interact!! Having said all of that - this story and this card is what makes our hobby absolutely amazing - and what makes Poppystamps my go-to for products. Since my son leaves Sunday, isn't it just perfect that I could use Poppystamps dies and stamps to personalize a shark card for him??!!
I used the Whittle Shark and cut him out of four grays and one out of blue to stand out as the "jaw-some" shark. I also gave the blue guy a few bubbles to highlight him (more on that later!) I guess I should have made the "jaw-some" shark white like a Great White Shark but after watching a few shark shows, great whites aren't actually all that white so my crafting eye stuck with matching the paper! Poppystamps has the perfect coordinating stamp set for all of their sealife dies called appropriately Whittle Sealife Sentiments! There were multiple stamps that would work, but I wanted to tell my guy that he is "jaw-some"!
I used two products in the background that are from Memory Box. Behind the sharks is the Waves 3D Embossing Folder. It's a full size folder but I just used a 1 1/2" strip. Then the patterned paper is from the Woodsy Plaid 6x6 Paper Pad.
I also used clear adhesive Fairy Drops (available at either Memory Box or Poppystamps). The guys in my life have a thing against bling of any kind but I thought I could get by with a few bubbles to accent the "jaw-some" shark. But there's a problem. I sat down with them last night in front of a shark show and learned a very important shark fact - it turns out that shark experts think that sharks might be afraid of bubbles. Who knew? I will definitely hear about that when my son gets his card. Lesson learned - must be knowledgeable on the creatures on your cards!!
Bubbles aside, I love the way the Whittle Shark along with that sentiment came together for the absolutely perfect card for my son this week!
I hope that I have given you an idea for quick and easy cards for the animal lovers in your life. Poppystamps has a huge variety of Whittle dies plus a variety of fun coordinating sentiments. Have fun!!
