Glitzy and Pastelly Rainbows
by Sphoorti
Hello Poppy Peeps!
Sphoorti again! I feel like it's been a while since I posted. Is it just me or have the first few weeks of this year seemed like a month?
Anyway, I'm here with 2 cards I made with a brand new product that was just released. It's called the Whittle Rainbow Unicorn Kit craft die, and it's magical! It comes with dies that cut out 18 pieces. I used the dies provided for the rainbows and the individual clouds for these cards, but there's so much more! Be sure to check it out.
So, who said rainbows can't be glitzy?! For my first card - I used the Whittle Cloud Border craft die to cut out 2 cloud borders. For one of them - I used double sided adhesive on top so that I could sprinkle the Diamond Dust on it, and the other one - I left clean. I glued them to a top folding 4.25 x 5.5" card base (one with foam tape to make it look elevated).
Then, I broke out my Glitzy Glitter Pad and cut out rainbows in different colors. I randomly assembled them back on a piece of double sided adhesive and slipped it behind the cloud border with the Diamond Dust and adhered it to the card base directly.
Next, I cut out a bunch of the individual clouds from the Whittle Rainbow Unicorn Kit with white cardstock, some with double sided adhesive on top. I removed the adhesive backers and poured (you guessed it!) the Diamond Dust on it and burnished them into the adhesive. I double / triple layered the other clouds for some dimension and adhered them to the card base.
Finally, the sentiment. I adore this Playful Hugs die as you may remember from my previous posts, so I cut out a number of them with regular cardstock and stacked them on top of each other, and topped it off with a cut from the same die, but in silver foil. My phone and the lighting make it look black, but it's actually silver foiled cardstock. What do you think?
For my second card, I decided to face my fears of achieving a pastel-colored look for my rainbow. I know, I couldn't believe it either! I'm very bad with pastels, and usually gravitate towards more vibrant colors. Plus, I have a heavy hand when I ink blend, so making a pastel rainbow seemed like a pipe dream. But I figured that if I messed up, I'd still have another card to post, so I took the chance.
I don't think it turned out too bad. What do you think? Does this look pastel-like to you? Or do I still have no idea what I'm doing? Please do tell!
Anyway, going back to how I made this one - the only difference is that I cut out the rainbow with plain white cardstock, and then used Distress Inks to color them in. The ones I used were: Twisted Citron, Spun Sugar, Candied Apple, Mustard Seed, Blueprint Sketch, and Shaded Lilac. I think it helps when you start with pastelly Distress Inks (doy, Sphoorti!)
I made this card a top folding landscape style and ended up with this:

Hi Sphoorti, I think the pastel colours show up very well. I adore both these cards, and I absolutely love the Diamond Dust, it looks like small shards of ice, so very effective, and I love all your rainbow colours. The silver 'hugs' sentiment looks like (on my laptop) silver with a hint of black shadow, looks beautiful.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
Delightful! Fascinating! One card makes one think sunshine, the other card dusk time, possibly the remains of a storm! Both cards catch my eye with the sparkly, crunchy look in the clouds. Well done my friend!!! Well done!
