Oak Leaves and a Forest Squirrel
by Kim Singdahlsen

Fall is my favorite season. I love all the brilliant colors of fall but it isn't just those traditional colors. I love how they look against the sky as it gets more wintery.  And I love how the colors look with a hint of frost in the morning.  There's such amazing contrast in the fall.  It may not be officially fall, but as soon as it is September, I feel like I can start using bright leaves and fall themes!

I cut the Whittle Oak Leaf in a rainbow of fall colors and arranged them in a little window as a backdrop to the charming Whittle Forest Squirrel. For the contrast I was talking about, I used a bluish-gray cardstock with the Memory Box Waves 3D Embossing Folder. I think it works as well for blowing wind as it does for waves.

As with all of the whittles dies, the detail in these is amazing.  Of course, you can add ink and highlights and anything you love to do with dies...but the detail in them also allows them to stand alone.  I just cut these out. I spent a little time arranging, but it was truly a quick and simple card.

The sentiment comes from the Whittle Everyday clear stamp set.  Across the whittle stamp sets there are so many punny sentiments - many would work perfectly with the squirrel. As I was looking at my card, I felt like it was "prettier" than I would want for the punny sentiments.  The stamp sets not only have those punny sentiments, but also basic and classic sentiments, so I settled on "thinking of you".

I hope you enjoyed my Whittle Forest Squirrel happily sitting in the rainbow of leaves!  It's always fun to work with the any of the Whittles because they have such charming expressions. As they are sitting on my desk waiting to end up on a card, I smile every time I look at them!

This is such a beautiful and colorful card! And with those dies, I can see how easy it was. Bravo!

Hi Kim, A gorgeous card, beautiful fall colours and that gorgeous Whittle Squirrel. I love the window effect with the wind blowing behind the leaves, so effective.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
