Sending Fall Hugs
by Tiffany Pryce
Hey Poppy friends! Anyone else in the mood for fall? I know, I know, we shouldn't rush the seasons, but I love fall. It is my favorite for so many reasons - cool weather, cozy sweaters, pumpkin everything, apple season, Halloween, my birthday, Thanksgiving, and so much more. Here's a card I made inspired by the beauty of changing leaves.
To start, I ink blended two panels with a variety of autumn inspired dye inks from Catherine Pooler. I blended one of the two panels a little lighter than the other. Since the inks are water reactive, I splattered both panels with water for a little texture. One panel was used as the background, and the other was used for my leaf silhouettes and die cuts.
I tried a new (to me) technique with my Poppystamps products where made a stencil with one of the Whittle dies. I covered a piece of scrap paper with masking tape and die cut the Whittle Oak Leaf multiple times to create a pseudo stencil. With the DIY stencil, I blended the same ink colors randomly on half of one ink blended panel, and then trimmed the panel in half. From the trimmed half of the panel, I die cut several leaves as normal. I added additional ink on the die cuts to deepen the colors.
To further differentiate the background, I dry embossed the Lattice Plate die for texture. And I popped up the leaves with foam tape for dimension. For a little sparkle, I added Fairy Jewels in coordinating colors.
For the final touch, I heat embossed a sentiment from Whittle Everyday in white embossing powder. I ink blended the sentiment strip with the same yellow and orange inks that I used in the background.
Hope you enjoyed this fall inspired card and I hope you try something new in your next make. See you next time!
