Intricate Butterflies
by Sue McRae
Hello crafters! Sue here with a slimline card that is fairly quick to make when time is of the essence.
I started by die cutting the Leafy Vines Slim Plate from white cardstock and attaching it to my white card base. I like the simple elegance of tone-on-tone die cuts.
Next I took the Intricate Butterflies and die cut two sizes (there are 4 to choose from) from white cardstock and inked them with Distress Inks. The large butterfly was inked with a darker shade of the same hue as the smaller butterfly.
I sprayed the butterflies with shimmer spray and they sparkle so beautifully (the photo doesn't capture it)! Then I layered them and I added a black gem to the body centre.
For contrast I decided to die cut the Brilliant Rings from black cardstock, added those to the card base with foam tape then adhered the butterflies to the rings. I really like how the colourful butterflies pop against the black!
I took two separate sentiments from the Birch Press Blooming Spring stamp set and used them for my card. The stamp for the top sentiment actually reads “sending you hugs this” but I didn’t ink up “this” and now the two sentiments “sending you hugs, happiness and joy” work well together.
I always enjoy making butterfly cards, I feel they work for many occasions and if you are ever stuck for a card design, repeating the same elements over is a great choice.
Wishing everyone a crafty week!
