Easter Shaker Card
by Tiffany Pryce
Hello, crafty friends! I decided to play along with this month's challenge theme - Shake it Up - and create some Easter inspiration featuring products from the newest release! I knew I wanted the shaker element to stand out the most, so I decided to create a textured, white on white background.
Card panel. To start my card, I began creating the front panel. With the Pinpoint Half Ring Plate, I die cut a 4.25 x 5.5 inch piece of heavyweight, white cardstock. I trimmed this panel down to 3.75 x 5 inch to allow for a border. The pierced texture provides subtle detail and interest to the background.
To build up the background detail, I decided to create my own scattered pattern of "decorated Easter eggs". I die cut several eggs from the Half A Dozen Eggs die set using the second smallest egg. To "decorate" my eggs, I used the Wave Trio die set to cut several strips of white paper in various shapes and widths. I adhered the strips onto each egg with liquid glue and then arranged and glued my eggs randomly on the panel. I trimmed any pieces of the egg that were hanging over. I backed the panel with a foam sheet for added dimension.
Shaker. Next, I created my shaker element. I cut the base of the shaker with the second largest egg die from light blue paper from the Delicate Pastel Glitter Pad. This shimmering cardstock is so pretty and has a beautiful rainbow of pastel colors perfect for spring cards. Using the same paper, I made a frame for my shaker from the second largest egg die and one size smaller. Behind my frame, I glued a piece of acetate and a double layer of thin foam tape for the shaker walls. I piled on some shaker bits in the middle of my base, and then adhered the top portion ensuring the eggs were aligned perfectly. I used strong liquid adhesive to glue the shaker to my card front. For some extra Easter embellishment, I die cut the rabbits from Spring Bunnies. I splattered the bunnies with a little silver, metallic watercolor, and glued one to the front and one inside the card. I added a small bow with string from my stash to the bunny on the front.
Sentiment. To create my sentiment, I die cut the Splendid Happy Easter die out of heavyweight white card stock four times and once from light teal paper from the Fresh Aqua Collection paper pad. I used liquid glue to adhere the layers together. Liquid glue allows me wiggle room to ensure the letters are lined up perfectly. I love dimensional sentiments because it helps the sentiment pop on the card and adds stability to withstand going through the mail.
Card base. For my card base, I cut and folded an A2 sized, side-folding card base from heavyweight white cardstock. On top of my card base, I layered a piece of 4.25 x 5.5 inch piece of pattern paper from the Garden Folly paper pack. Finally, I adhered all of my card pieces together, gluing the sentiment at the bottom on the card. Hope you're inspired to make your own Easter cards using the new spring release from Poppystamps! Happy crafting!
