Leafy Vines Two Ways
by Kim Singdahlsen
There are slimline dies in the new spring release at Poppystamps!! Today I am playing with the Leafy Vines Slim Plate. I had a number of ideas and just couldn't decide whether to use it vertically or horizontally so I did both!
Using it vertically felt like branches for birds. Earlier this week there was amazing bird song outside my window (I'm in Colorado and it's winter so cheerful chirping birds are very unusual.) I am lucky enough right now to be working from home so I threw open my window and reveled in the sound. Also this week people in my neighborhood have been posting pictures of cardinals. I've never seen a cardinal in Colorado. The pictures have been so amazing with brilliantly red cardinals sitting on snowy bird feeders. So you can see I had birds on my mind.
I used a soft blue background then cut my Chirping Birds out of a variety of bright colors. This was such a fun and cheerful card to make! The sentiment is also brand new - Happy Birthday Poe Script. I am very picky about the look of my sentiments and how it fits the card, and I think this is a perfect match. The sentiment is cut out of black glitter paper in keeping with the celebration.
Besides branches for birds, I also envisioned a tangle of growth - like wildflowers. So my next card is horizontal and backed with green which I splattered with white and sparkles to give it a magical, sun-splattered look.
One of the other amazing new die sets is the Fern and Daisy Pop Up Easel Set. It is stunning done as an easel with all of the layers. Check out this post by Pam to see all of the amazing detail. It's a big sets of dies - the easel, the leafy background, multiple flowers and butterflies. If I'm going to get a big set like this, I want multiple ways to use it. So for my card, I just used the flowers and butterflies. I didn't even layer them up like in the linked card by Pam; I kept them looking like simple wildflowers. I did a loose stripe of flowers/butterflies across the center then used the new Splendid Happy Easter die cut from a new Memory Box glitter pad - Graceful Garden.
These were very fun cards to make. I love the cheerful colors of the birds, flowers and butterflies as they play in the vines! Of course, this vine can also be very elegant - see this post by Marybeth. I look forward to making more cards with the vines and I'll definitely make easel cards with the fern and daisy set. The spring release is full of gorgeous products!
