Stencil techniques

Hello everyone! Spring is getting closer by the minute and I'm loving the new stencils from the spring release, so once I got started I just couldn't stop myself. I absolutely LOVE stencils, they can be used in so many different ways and today I'm sharing a couple of different techniques.

Let's start easy, however a bit untraditionally. Here I'm using the Chrysanthemum stencil with just one ink on patterned paper.

The Whittle cutie rabbit is also cut from patterned paper, and to add a little sparkle I also cut it from glitter paper and offset it behind the patterned paper.

For the next card I switched to white cardstock and 5 colors of ink with the Romantic Blooms stencil.

I first masked off the leaves. Then, starting from the centre of the flower, using a soft yellow, light and dark pink to create depth. I did the same for the leaves while masking off the flowers. I'm not fancy so I simply use Post It's that I tear to fit the needed area.

I just love the soft blended look of this, so all I did was add a sentiment courtesy of Birch Press Designs. And I love the tiny cuts in these label sets that allow for a small ribbon to go through. So romantic. I backed the panel and label with pink glitter paper. Just look at all that sparkle. LOVE!

This card features my favorite stencil technique. It's really easy to do and if you use a glitter embossing powder, like I did here, all you really need to add is a sentiment. I cut the Friend folksy script die from black cardstock 3 times and layered it. The white heat embossed sentiment is from Birch Press Designs.

I'm using the Bright Blossoms stencil. I go over the stencil with a nice thick coat of texture paste. Once the stencil is removed (and cleaned) I add my embossing powder. You then want to set it aside and let it dry completely before heat setting it. Depending on the amount of glitter in your powder you may want to let it dry before removing any excess powder as well. You'll be left with a beautiful textured, and in my case very glittery, impression of your stencil.

On this card I'm using the gorgeous Birch Press Designs Midnight Mandala stencil with texture paste and watercolor powders.

I recommend spraying your stencil with temporary adhesive. And even then I still get a little bleeding. But I love the shiny textured look.

I die cut the border and hugs heart from white cardstock and the heart from glitter paper as well. The white heart was used to back the glitter paper and then I popped it up with craft foam for dimension.

For my final card I'm using the Memory Box Leafy Jumble stencil for partial stenciling with gold glimmer paste on patterned paper.

I wanted to use a dark paper and white cardstock for die cutting, and I felt this whimsical glittery textured surface would just break the pattern.

I cut out the wheelbarrow 3 times and layered them for sturdiness before popping it up with craft foam. I cut 2 branches of the floral cluster and placed them on the patterned paper. I also cut out the tiny flowers from soft pink and orange glitter paper and added them to the branches. I finished off the flowers with a drop of Fairy Sugar in matching colors. Sentiment label is also popped up.

So there you have them. Thank you for sticking around 'til the end, I really hope I've inspired you. Let me know which technique is your favorite and if there's a technique you'd like me to give more details to in the future. Have a great day, and happy crafting!

Hi Tina, I adore all these techniques with the stencils, so effective, I must admit I don't use my stencils anywhere near as much as I could, I will be trying all these techniques. I must say this Whittle rabbit is so so cute, it's face is adorable.
