Challenge Reminder - Masquerade
by Jeanne Jachna

Halloween-Mask-Three
I hope you're playing along with our current challenge!   This month the theme is Masquerade!  Doesn't that sound perfect for Halloween?   Your project can be for any occasion (I just love Halloween LOL!)

10-17 copy A "Masquerade" is defined as a false show or pretense.  Halloween is a time when we dress up in costumes and pretend to be the characters we dress up as.  Many times this involves a "Mask" to conceal our identities.   We want you to create a project using a mask.  Masking is very popular in stamping - covering previously stamped areas with a mask and doing more stamping over the masked image.  Masking is also a great way to cover a stamped image and add background color.    Another type of mask is a STENCIL that masks areas allowing you to add ink where you like.  The choice is yours, just be sure to use at least one Poppystamps image on your project.

Here's what I made...

Halloween-Mask-Three
I started by die cutting a circle from a post it note.  I have the ones that are sticky end to end - not just a strip at the top.

I used the negative of the die cut to ink up the moon on a sheet of white card stock.   I used Squeezed Lemonade and Mustard Seed.

Next I removed the negative mask and put the circle die cut over the yellow inked moon.  I covered the rest of the card stock panel with Milled Lavender and Seedless Preserves Distress Ink.   I left some white at the bottom of the panel for my sentiment.   When I was happy with the ink coverage I splattered the panel with water, and then a splatter of white ink.  When everything was dry I removed the mask from the moon and added more Squeezed Lemonade around the moon to give it a glowing effect.

Next I stamped some bats from Halloween Costume Cats stamp set over the moon.   I also stamped the happy halloween sentiment along the bottom of the panel.

I added die cut birch trees in shades of purple and the kitties and pumpkins from the Costume Cats stamp set.

The stamp set has a coordinating die set that makes cutting all the images a breeze.  I adhered the images with adhesive foam tape to add more dimension.  I positioned the kitties holding hands!   You should always have a buddy when your trick or treating!
