CASology Challenge - Soft (snow)
by Jeanne Jachna

Soft-Snow-One

Do you like playing challenges you find in the bloggie world?  It's how I originally started my own blog.  I remember seeing a beautiful card in a magazine and thinking to myself "Wow! I'd sure like to make that!"  I went on line to look up the manufacturer of the stamp set and saw that they had a monthly challenge.  What a great place for me to find ideas for different things to make with the stamps I bought, and they had a challenge too!  Seeing that I might actually be able to win a prize was great motivation!  Crafting can get expensive and who doesn't love a  freebie once in a while?  All I needed to do was make a card and link it on their blog.   But what was a blog?  I had a lot to learn.  That was almost 6 years ago and I'm still having fun.. and I'm still playing challenges.

I don't play to win anymore.. now I look for the names of people I've come to know to see what they're making .. sort of like visiting an old friend.  I still love seeing what everyone makes and feeling a sense of community when I see a familiar name.

Did you know that Poppystamps has a monthly challenge too?  It begins on the first of every month and you can always find it by clicking on the challenge tab at the top of the page - or the challenge badge on the side bar.   This month's theme is "Plaid is Rad".  To play along you need to use at least one Poppystamps image (stamp or die) and add a little plaid to your design.

Once in a while we sponsor other challenges in blogland.  This week we're the sponsor at CASology.

Week 225 - Soft
CASology is a weekly  "Clean and Simple" challenge.  Every week they have a different CUE card to get your creativity kick started.  This week the CUE word is Soft.  Your project should feature something that comes to mind when you think of the word SOFT.  It could be something for baby, or soft colors, or how about.. soft as a feather, or butterfly wings?

So what's CAS "Clean and Simple"? Here's the guidelines taken from their blog...

  1. One main image
  2. Lots of open space, uncluttered
  3. Limited layers & embellishments
  4. Quick & easy to recreate (Note: It may take a while to create a design you like, but once you have that design, making more should be a piece of cake!)One player will receive a sweet gift from Poppystamps for playing along

One player will receive a sweet gift from Poppystamps!  AND if you're feeling clever, you can double dip by entering our challenge too!

Here's what I made for the challenge.
Soft-Snow-Three
Can you guess what I was thinking of when I read the word soft?  Yes!  That's right.. SNOW!  And you know I'm loving pink this year for snowy scenes!  I did a simple watercolor wash for the background and splattered it with white ink.   Next I added some stitched snowy hills.
Soft-Snow
I stamped the sentiment from Christmas Greetings in pink ink to match the snowy sky!

The Scribble Snowflake Circle makes a beautiful frame for the Peaceful Deer silhouette!

I hope you'll join me at CASology this week- it's a great place to make new friends!

Wonderful card!

Hi Jeanne, A very pretty CAS card.
Lots of love from Patricia xx

I am so glad that you agree with me that snow is soft! You are definitely more of a snow expert than me. I absolutely adore this card--such an amazing contrast between the white of your die cut and the beautiful deep rich pink of your background. Stunning!! Thanks so much for playing along at CASology this week and for being our sponsor. Happy Thanksgiving, my friend.
