Blog Blitz: Watercolored Dogwood by JJ Bolton

The Blog Blitz is in full swing and I've got a Spring card for you today!  The dogwood tree is the State tree where I live (in Virginia, US) and it's always been one of my favorites!  So I couldn't wait to use the Falling Dogwood Blossoms die.  This is a full A2 size die and it is gorgeous!  As you can see, I used it as a reverse die with watercoloring on the layer below the actual die cut.  To start the card, I die cut one piece and then used the die to emboss another piece of watercolor paper.  

I embossed the second piece so that I knew exactly how to paint the blooms so that you could see them through the die cut.  When you paint or color the embossed piece, the embossed lines disappear.  I also painted a couple of blossoms that I popped out of the die cut piece.

The next step was to stamp the sentiment and add a bit of blended blue sky.  Finally, I added the die cut piece over the painted piece with foam tape and added the few painted blossoms on top.

This may be my favorite die of the collection! And this card is just beautiful! using the embossed piece as a guide is a wonderful tip. Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing.

Gorgeous card. Very clever to emboss the backing card so you knew where to color your flowers. I will have to remember this tip. I also really like how the blue goes from light to dark.
