Through The Forest
by Sue McRae
Welcome everyone! Today I'm sharing my first "fall" card of the season, though it's hard to think about autumn and the upcoming holidays when it's in the mid to high 30's (celsius) here. I am looking forward to the cooler weather and the changing of the leaves.
For my scene, I wanted to capture the feeling of walking through the forest and peeking through the vibrant leaves and spotting a deer off in the distance. I chose the Leafy Frame for this, cut it out of vellum and coloured it with Alcohol Inks. I cut four more layers of vellum in orange, yellow, red and green to layer behind the inked vellum. I flipped the orientation of the vellum layers so they did not lineup with each other, this way each colour of vellum would be visible.
I also inked up vellum in green and yellow for my grass and used the Stitched Landscape for this and the sky is a piece of blue vellum. I cut out the Cheery Cardinals with black card stock and mingled them in with the leaves. For the Forest Deer I added double sided adhesive to card stock and added Fun Flock on top for some great texture.
One of the things I like about this card is that there's a lot of depth but almost no dimension to it. Can you believe I have 8 layers on the card base (not including the deer or birds), 7 of them vellum. This card can easily be mailed in a regular envelope, which I will do in a couple of weeks for my father-in-laws birthday (he's a nature lover).
