A Day at the Cape

It's a beautiful day to spend at the Cape! This fun, nautical card says it is seriously time for warmer weather! It was easy to create with a few detailed Poppystamps dies too. I used the artsy clouds from the High Flying Kites to create the clouds, the waves, and the trees. The round sun is the wheel from the Carnival Food Cart, and it is a perfect match! The wavy horizon and the sailboat on the water are both from the new Marina Sailboats. Do you love that beautiful beach house on the bay? It's a single house from the versatile Brevilla Houses. Our cute little Pond Frog makes his home among the tall reeds from the Grassland Border.

I just love creating pretty nature scenes out of die cuts. You can use pop dots or foam pieces to give your scene a little extra dimension, which also creates tiny shadows when your card is up on display. For this nautical scene, I wanted to create a realistic perspective, where objects in the front appear large, like our little green pond frog, and objects in the back appear small, like our Cape House. You can also create realistic perspective by creating a horizon, like the ocean or a field, and placing objects at different distances from your horizontal plane. It might sound complicated, but all you have to do is trust your own eyes! Experiment a little with your die cuts, combining houses and trees, or animals and clouds at various points on the horizon. You may look at your dies with a whole new perspective!

Michelle, I love the perspective on your card, especially the close up frog looking in on the scene. There's something about that sailboat set I'm just drawn to... I may have to add it to my collection at some point. Thanks for the great inspiration!
