Merry and Bright


Arctic Penguin and his warm felt scarf would make anyone smile on the coldest winter day.  He and the Anna Snowflake even have special matching dies - no more hand-cutting...another reason to smile!  View the Poppystamps Holiday Collection here.

If your handmade cards are already headed to their lucky recipients, it would be easy to convert this design into a cute little tag.  Add a bright red ribbon and attach it to a gift or jar of holiday treats.

The felt scarf was stamped with Black ColorBox Crafter's Pigment Ink - it's specially-formulated for surfaces like wood, fabric and clay, which are very absorbent and/or textured.  I accidentally learned that it's great for stamping and embossing on watercolor paper - which is both textured and absorbent.

  • Stamp Arctic Penguin on the smoother side of watercolor paper with Black Crafter's Ink and emboss it with detail clear powder
  • Diecut the penguin from scrap paper, place the negative "frame" over the stamped image, and mark the two registration dots
  • Align the registration dots on the die with the marked dots and diecut the penguin
  • Stamp him again (for the scarf) on red felt
  • Briefly heat-set the ink
  • Attach Scor-Tape to the uncut scarf section, then cut the scarf out and attach it to the penguin
  • Color his feet and beak with the orange pencil
  • Stamp Merry and Bright on Thistle Cardstock with Cranberry and emboss it with Opalescent Clear powder
  • Trim the cardstock to 2-3/8" x 2-1/2"
  • Stamp Arctic Snowflake on the smoother side of watercolor paper with Silver and emboss it with Sterling Silver powder
  • Follow the same marking/diecutting procedure to diecut the snowflake
  • Diecut another snowflake from watercolor paper and layer the snowflakes for dimension
  • Cut a 2" x 4" strip of Thistle Dots
  • Cut a 1-1/4" x 4-3/4" strip of Thistle Gingham
  • Attach the pieces to a Mars Shimmer A2 Notecard
  • Coordinate the card with a matching Mars Shimmer A2 Envelope
