Lovely Koi
by Jennifer Svare

Koi_1

Hello!  For today's video, I'll show how this simple card was created using watercolor paper, layers, and an earthy mix of distress oxides.  Truly a fast and easy card, this would be great for Father's Day!

Koi_Closeup

The Lovely Koi die-cuts were inlaid into the background for an extra crisp look.  So many dies could be used in place of the Koi, but I love how the koi form a circle as if swimming around each other which adds so much movement and grace to the card.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, and be sure to check out the video below for the details of how each step was done.  Have a great day!

I created this colorful card for an adventurous boy in my life! It's an interactive slider card, made with the Straight Slider Grooves from Memory Box! The Tall Ship slides across the Seven Seas, accompanied by a school of colorful Bubble Fish! The ship moves back and forth across the card, and even turns bobs up and down in the waves! The adventurous little little man will love playing with this fun card!

Elegant Koi
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0027

Hi! Nancy here, and I'm bringing you a card made with one of my favorites, Elegant Koi. Love the movement of this sweet little guy, and I used a few techniques to make him that I'd love to share with you.

1st off, the background

DSC_0003

I chose my colors based on water, such as a fish would be swimming in. Distress Oxide works best for this technique.

DSC_0004

I selected a stencil, this one is Memory Box's Garden Peony Blossoms.

Then comes the fun part...

Spritz the back of the stencil with water, and carefully place it on the inked panel.

Place a paper towel over the stencil, and weigh it down with a book or in this case I used an acrylic block.

DSC_0028

Wait awhile for the water to soak into the ink. I waited 5 minutes.

DSC_0030

When you remove the stencil the image is set into your panel! Isn't that wild? Thanks to Marcia Hill, who taught me this fun technique!

DSC_0022

I also used a stencil to create the glittery scales for my Elegant Koi. First die cut with vellum, then spread with Nuvo Glimmer Paste (Moonstone colored with re-inker). I wanted a bit of orange on my yellow koi, so I added a few spots of watercolor.

DSC_0005

Brush Hello was cut 3 times with 3 shades of  blue shimmer paper.

Hope you enjoyed today's post and my little tutorial. It's a fun technique that really adds a punch to a background, and another  fun way to use your stencils.

Seaside
by Jeanne Jachna

Seaside-Three
About this time every year I start thinking about heading sea side.  I miss the ocean air and walking in the sand.  As with most of my crafting I'm inspired by what I see, or things that are on my mind.  Mostly my crafting is a sweet escape.  So come along with me today - we're headed down to the harbor!
Seaside-Fusion
I used lots of dies to make this fun scene.  The Stitched Cloud borders make a layered cloudy sky, and the Ric Rac Stitches become waves.  I cut the waves in several shades of blue layering each border one over the other.
Seaside-One
The Birds In Flight (Seagulls) are looking for a catch and a big fish (Lovely Koi) is ready to jump!
Seaside-Two
Sometimes I can't find just the right die so a few pieces are cut by hand.  Can you guess which ones they are?
Seaside-Four
Did you guess the beams of light from the lighthouse?  That's right!  And the second is the cropping of land that the lighthouse is perched upon!
Seaside
Isn't it wonderful the places your imagination will take you? I hope you find some time for a sweet escape today!

Elegant Koi
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0011

Greetings, my Poppy friends! I have a thing for koi. Oh yes, big time! My DH built me a koi pond so that I could watch them. We started with 5, and have been blessed with offspring. We have nearly 30 now! Take a peek...

DSC_0025

They're truly elegant creatures, that inspired my card.

DSC_0004

My Elegant Koi card began with treating the base with Distress Oxide Inks, and sprinkling water and ink for a watery effect.

DSC_0001

I also cut my koi several times from shimmer cardstock.

DSC_0003

I think a beautiful koi makes a dramatic statement on a simple 'hello' card, don't you?

Hope you liked my post today. And hope you have a wonderful day of crafting!

Row Your Boat
by Michele K. Henderson

IMG_5261-wm

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited to be sharing this card I created with the brand new Seaside Dock and the Wooden Rowboat! WhenI first saw this adorable combination, I thought about all of the great metaphors a little boat and a dock could create. I really played around with these two images a lot too, in order to get it just right. What messages do YOU see with this tiny boat? Is it off to a new adventure, or sailing in to a safe shore? Is it a reminder to a friend that you are always near, or an encouragement to someone whose journey has just begun, or that our dreams are still just out of reach? Maybe it's just a little boat on a summer's day!

IMG_5257-wm

The Seaside Dock and the Wooden Rowboat were cut with basic cardstock, and then placed inside the Pointed Rectangle Frame. I added two tiny waves from the Gentle Wave Collage and a few sparkling sequins and voila!

Thanks so much for joining us today!

Seaside Birthday Greetings
by Marybeth Lopez

IMG_2959

Hi there! Marybeth here today with this detailed: Seaside Dock and Wooden Rowboat dies from Poppystamps !

IMG_2963

I cut my dies out of colored cardstock then lightly shaded them with soft brushes to highlight the detail even more. The brushes help me keep it light, even and smoother than a sponge.

Each one( boat and dock) is layered twice then adhered with foam tape. The background was made by  shading and  kinda guessing where the water and land would be.

IMG_2961

The brushes wash out very easily and dry fast. I also used watercolor cardstock for the base of my card.

I added a little piece of twine to the dock and boat, for a little more 3d look of the card.

Thanks so much for the visit and congratulations to all the Blog Blitz winners!

You've Got This!
by Jennifer Svare

FishCard_Watermark4

Hello!  Today I have a tri-fold card to share!  The front has a simple round window showing a fish in the background.  The fish has a bright red sparkle on its cheek.

When the card is opened, it shows that fish leading the school, with "you've got this" along the bottom. The star bubble adds to the overall feel of accomplishment and the sentiment stamp is perfect for "confident encouragement!"

FishCard_Watermark6

When the fish panel is opened, there is room for writing on the inside, and I like how the writing will be kept hidden when on display.

Using the I'm a Narwhal Stamp Set, the fish were created by stamping the single fish several times to create the school. The bubbles, star, and sentiment are also part of the set.  I then colored the fish with Copic markers.  A tiny bit of "chunky-yet-super-sparkly" glitter was added to each fish cheek so they really do flash like a fin in the light. To create some dimension, Glossy Accents was added to each fish and also the bubbles.

The water background was created using distress oxide inks, but wanted it to look very light and not overpowering, so it was just lightly sponged on.  No water was added - the dimension was picked up from using a sponge.

FishCard3_Watermark

The front pattern was made with an embossing folder.

FIshCard_Watermark7

I've created a video that shows each step of creating this fun, simple card!
