Sweet Wishes Friend
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0109

Hi! Nancy here, and today I'm sharing a card and a technique using your dies to create a stencil.

DSC_0105

It's aways a plus to get extra mileage from your dies, here's how I did just that.

DSC_0083

Poppy's new die, Winged Bird Collage is perfect for this technique. I die cut the bird image from a scrap of vellum, and inked it with Ranger's Distress Oxide Inks, on a piece of watercolor cardstock.

DSC_0087

I added some Sheer Shimmer Craft Spray, which really brings out the intensity of the Distress Oxide Inks.

DSC_0110

Here's a closeup of the watercolored panel that's been inked and Shimmer sprayed.

Hope you enjoyed this post today, and hope you give this technique a try. It's always fun to try new things!

Hope your day is extra crafty!

Challenge Reminder: Birthday Party!
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0043

Hi Poppy fans! There's a new challenge on the Poppystamps blog, and you who enjoy making birthday or other celebration cards, this challenge is for you!

DSC_0004

My Birthday Wishes card was so much fun to make. Let me show you why.

DSC_0039

I used the new Leafy Vine Collage with Best Wishes Folksy die and created my card with Magicals powder.

DSC_0003

I ordered my Magicals on Amazon. It's a powder in a small jar, that goes on deceptively plain (shook from a paintbrush), and when water is spritzed on, transformed into the magical background you see. My Double Stitch Rectangular Frames were cut 4 times for depth and glued together.

DSC_0005

Plenty of script words to choose from among the Poppystamps sets. Mine is from Magic and Sparkle.

Are you ready to win some shopping at the Poppystamps store?

Come play along all month!

Blog Blitz: Summer Release!
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0062

Hi Everybody! We're celebrating a Blog Blitz here at Poppystamps. And if you love the die I'm showcasing, LEAVE A COMMENT! That's all you have to do, and you might win this darling Delicate Branch Collage die.

DSC_0054

Couldn't resist making it into a  shaker. Like to make one similar? Here's a rundown of my how-to's.

DSC_0049

First I stenciled a card base with MB's Texture Dot Grid. I'm all about layers. And depth. and pattern. The more the merrier!

As you can see, I stenciled 3 shades of ink onto my card, not worrying about anything in the center, that part will be covered.

DSC_0052

I inked up a white linen look cardstock in blue and purple, before cutting out with my die.

Also cut it again, so I could use just the branches. Notice I used my die with the branches on top. I knew I was going to add a sentiment on the bottom, so I wanted to keep the bottom clean.

DSC_0066

Friend Folksy Scrip is one of the new dies being released too. Stay tuned for one of the other designers featuring it as her giveaway.

DSC_0063

I cut my scrip die twice, once from navy blue cardstock, then from white. I love doubling up my dies, for added depth. Did I mention I LOVE layering? Couldn't resist adding a bit of Wink of Stella to my word die.

DSC_0061

If you'd like a chance to win the Delicate Branch Collage die, remember to leave a comment.

Someone's gonna win, hope it's you!

Sparkle
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0005

Greeting Poppy Peeps! I have a fun card to show you today, using Poppy's Swirly Loop.

DSC_0008

Birthdays seem to sneak up on me, and I love having a stash ready just in case. This fun little die is a handy swirl that could be a sun, a wreath or just a contemporary image as I've used it.

DSC_0001

One of my favorite background techniques is to create a stencil from vellum, with my die, and sponge ink it onto my main surface. It gives a subtle 'just enough' texture.

DSC_0011

The word sentiment was cut twice from glitter paper.

DSC_0012

Hope this gave you incentive to increase the uses for your dies, and of course to increase on hand birthday cards!

Hope your week is super crafty!

Elegant Koi
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0027

Hi! Nancy here, and I'm bringing you a card made with one of my favorites, Elegant Koi. Love the movement of this sweet little guy, and I used a few techniques to make him that I'd love to share with you.

1st off, the background

DSC_0003

I chose my colors based on water, such as a fish would be swimming in. Distress Oxide works best for this technique.

DSC_0004

I selected a stencil, this one is Memory Box's Garden Peony Blossoms.

Then comes the fun part...

Spritz the back of the stencil with water, and carefully place it on the inked panel.

Place a paper towel over the stencil, and weigh it down with a book or in this case I used an acrylic block.

DSC_0028

Wait awhile for the water to soak into the ink. I waited 5 minutes.

DSC_0030

When you remove the stencil the image is set into your panel! Isn't that wild? Thanks to Marcia Hill, who taught me this fun technique!

DSC_0022

I also used a stencil to create the glittery scales for my Elegant Koi. First die cut with vellum, then spread with Nuvo Glimmer Paste (Moonstone colored with re-inker). I wanted a bit of orange on my yellow koi, so I added a few spots of watercolor.

DSC_0005

Brush Hello was cut 3 times with 3 shades of  blue shimmer paper.

Hope you enjoyed today's post and my little tutorial. It's a fun technique that really adds a punch to a background, and another  fun way to use your stencils.

Sending Handmade Hugs
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0010

Hi! It's my turn to show you a card made with Poppystamps die, Country Rose Corner.

DSC_0004

Another new die set I used is: Big Hexagon Border Layer and Little Hexagon Border Layer. 2 different dies,

when used together make a big layering impact!

DSC_0012

Is there anything sweeter than pinks and pale blue for Spring?

I took out the pieces of my rose die cut and copic colored the petals. Also copic colored the fern leaves. You'll notice I used 3 rose dies for their fern leaves, to look like they were climbing a lattice.

DSC_0008

I wanted a controlled 'splatter' of dots, so I stamped the dots from Peony Stems and Blossoms.

Hope you enjoyed my Spring card, and are inspired to create one too!

Elegant Koi
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0011

Greetings, my Poppy friends! I have a thing for koi. Oh yes, big time! My DH built me a koi pond so that I could watch them. We started with 5, and have been blessed with offspring. We have nearly 30 now! Take a peek...

DSC_0025

They're truly elegant creatures, that inspired my card.

DSC_0004

My Elegant Koi card began with treating the base with Distress Oxide Inks, and sprinkling water and ink for a watery effect.

DSC_0001

I also cut my koi several times from shimmer cardstock.

DSC_0003

I think a beautiful koi makes a dramatic statement on a simple 'hello' card, don't you?

Hope you liked my post today. And hope you have a wonderful day of crafting!

Cascade of Posies
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0059

Hi! I'm so glad you joined me today. I have a card made with a new Poppy die called, Pierced Finnegan Circle.

DSC_0068

A friend of mine recently had shoulder surgery, and wanted her to know she's on my heart and mind. Here's a few of

what I used to create this card.

DSC_0051

After running the die through the die cutting machine, I inked a bit of color to hi light the pierced design.

DSC_0048

Blooming Border provided the posies and leaves, which I cut from vellum.

DSC_0064

Lots of sequin flower centers, and a sweet 'feel better', and my card's ready to send!

Hope you got some inspiration today. And hope you have a 'craftilicous' day!

Blog Blitz: Hello
by Nancy Penir

DSC_0043

Well Hello, and welcome back to Poppy's Spring Blog Blitz! I'm featuring a new die called, 'Rotary Phone'. Super cute, isn't it?

DSC_0041

Lots of Poppy on this colorful spring card, so let's get right to the 'how's'.

DSC_0031

I love the look of the Double Stitch Frames, and used the smallest square frame for the die cut phones. It's a perfect fit. The largest square frame is also a perfect fit for 4 small frames!

DSC_0033

The little rotary phone is an iconic image for talking!

DSC_0039

The die cut 'hello' was sponge inked. Wasn't quite sure which one to use until the card was done. It's OK, always like having a few handy for other cards!

DSC_0050

Kinda has an Andy Warhol feel, with the bright colored squares, doesn't it?

Hope you found some inspiration today. Be sure to check back each day of the Blitz for more fun!
