Dragonfly Thanks...

Things are very busy here at Poppystamps. We've been shipping out new dies for the season, and now there are brand new papers from Memory Box to coordinate with all of your favorite stamps. Today's card features our Large Dragonfly Stamp (247D) and the brand new papers. I made a couple of Spring thanks cards.

I stamped two of the dragonflies and colored them lightly with my Copic Markers. Then I used diamond stickles to make their wings glittery. I layered some of the new papers together and came up with a simple, elegant Thanks card perfect for any occasion.

When I was cleaning up my work area, the negative left in the paper after cutting the die caught my eye....so I quickly put together another card! So I got two in one with this one!

Here are the new notecard colors and the new Viola collection of papers. The Viola is available in this 6x6 pack and also in 12x12.

The Seattle Humane Society is AMAZING!

Hi everyone - my name is Cooper Brethauer! My sister and I started this company, poppystamps, as a way to learn about my mom and dad's business (Memory Box) in 2008. I have learned how to invoice and pack, as well as understand how a business works. It's fun seeing what people make from the stamps that we sell - and I've learned a lot about how websites work!

In November 2010, my family went to the Seattle Center to meet Jane Goodall and listen to her speak about animals. She has done a lot of work saving gorillas and she is the founder of the Roots and Shoots organization. The Roots and Shoots organization helps kids make a positive difference in their communities and I decided we should start our own group, called The Purple Polar Bears! We thought that we could use poppystamps as a way to learn about business and help animals at the same time.

My sister and I talked my Dad into doing a charity class at a local stamp store (Impress Rubber Stamps in Tukwila, Washington) on February 14, 2011 - where all fees would be donated to the Seattle Humane Society. We ended up getting 62 people to sign up and raised $620 - I helped with the class all day long, getting supplies for people and passing materials out to everyone. I couldn't believe how many people wanted to help! I want to have an even bigger event in 2012!

We gave the donation to the Humane Society in Bellevue, Washington - and they were nice enough to give us a tour. We started by visiting the dog kennels - dogs have always been my favorite animal, are they yours?

This is a picture of Jenna Pringle (my sister Emma is on the left, Jenna is in the middle and I'm on the right). Jenna Pringle is the executive assistant at the Humane Society in Bellevue, Washington. Here are some pictures of animals that need adopting...

This dog is behind glass in a small room. It has an opening so that they can get out and walk around. The people at the animal shelter clean out these rooms daily and walk the dogs and take really good care of them.

We received a letter from the CEO of the Seattle Humane Society, David Loewe, thanking us for our donation.

I felt bad for all of the animals that were at the shelter, not having homes to stay in. Jenna was nice and so were the workers there. If you are interested in having one of these pets, contact the shelter. I learned that there are a lot of animals that need adoption. I would adopt one, except that we already have two dogs!

In the summer of 2011, my sister and I went on a tour of the United States with my Mom and Dad - visiting stores that sell our poppystamps products and Memory Box products. And of course, we brought our dogs along for the 6 week trip!

My sister and I helped out (while my dad taught workshops) by handing out materials, sharpening pencils, and helping the students. At the end of the workshops, we'd bring the dogs in and the people would love it!

My dog, Kip, was asked to "sign" one of the student's supply bags at the Paper Garden store in Sacramento. He's a really social dog, so he's ready for anything! Here I am getting ready to help him...

...we inked up one of his paws...

...then carefully pressed it onto the bag.

And you can see, that he is officially part of the tour! The student even let me sign my name too!

I think it's important for people to remember how important it is to take good care of their animals. Keep in mind all of the good work that the Humane Society does in your city!

Serene Birdcage

Greetings and Happy Weekend! Dave and the gang in Seattle are digging their way out of the giant snow storm and getting orders ready to ship just as fast as they can. Thank you so much for being patient while we get everything out to you! Today we are sharing a card made with some favorite Poppystamps Dies and some beautiful Memory Box papers and a Memory Box stamp too! Have a look...

This Vintage Bird Cage Die is just so pretty and intricate. Here I cut it from a nice rich brown paper. The new Nestled Bird Die fits just perfectly inside.

The Meadow Leaf Die is a nice compliment to the scene. First I stamped the Blank Ticket stamp in a nice soft tan color to ground the other images. Then it was just a matter of layering everything else. This is a relatively easy card to make....but it doesn't look easy! I like that.

Thanks for coming by...it's always so nice to have you here. If you haven't already, won't you follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook? (The links are in the left side bar) That way you can see all of our updates when they happen and we can share ideas. Have a great day!

Thanks for your patience with us!

Greetings from snowy Seattle! We've had a huge snowstorm this week that has snarled traffic, and closed the airport, and basically brought our fair city to a crawl.

Peony Blossoms...

Hi Poppystamps friends! We're back today with some clean and simple notecards using the Peony Blossom stamps in a bright color palette. These stamps are so versatile and can be used for a focal image or to make your own background papers. Take a look!

I stamped the Solid Peony in shades of orange and lemon and then used the outline Peony in black for that graphic detail look. This would be pretty in just about any color combination!

Suki and Aiko!

Today I'm going back in the vault to showcase some of our beautiful Asian stamps! I made a pair of bright red cards perfect for any occasion. The cards feature Suki Sweetheart and Aiko Appleblossom. You're going to love these girls!

I kept the layout clean and simple and used some pretty character stamps - one says Happiness and the other says Celebrate.

Their Kimonos were colored in with Copic Markers. The background stamp was inked with distress ink so as not to be too strong.

Lovely Window Box....

Hi Poppystamps friends! It's the time to start a new week and time to showcase some of our brand new dies! It is so much fun to work with the new products and mix and match everything. The window dies were a big hit and now there are window boxes and flowers to put with them! Awesome! The possibilities really are endless.

Here's the card for today:

Here are all the dies used to make this card. A full supply list with each die is at the bottom of the post. I cut the window box out of some Memory Box 6x6 paper - and chose a piece that looked like a worn in planter. For the flowers I die cut green paper and yellow paper and pieced them together for a sunny row of flowers. You could also die cut this image from white paper and color the stems and flowers with markers.

In order to get the flower patch to stay in one solid piece, put your paper off the edge of the die cutting plate. I happen to use a Cuttlebug machine. See how the bottom of the stems are hanging over? If you don't do this, the flowers will come apart - which is fine too - you can just glue them in place later.

After die cutting, you can pop the flowers forward and cut behind them for a strip to mount on the back of the window box.

Here is the pretty little row of flowers in their box! I cut an ivy tendril die and put it on the front too. More is more, right?

For good measure...I had to put a bird on it! This is our new Nested Bird die. I added a bit more ivy tendril to the top of the window. I stamped some branches in versamark ink on the kraft card base.

I chose some other Memory Box 6x6 paper to put inside the window - I wanted it to look like wallpaper inside the house.

Asian Spring Tree

Did you know that Poppystamps has an entire line of Asian Character stamps? Click here to go to that page of the store. It's almost time for Chinese New Year, so I am in the mood to use beautiful Asian themes right now. Today, I've used some of our Memory Box dies in an unconventional way, and a pretty Spring Asian character. I'm very ready to move on to Spring!

Now you might now have noticed right away that the tree is made up of clouds!

Some of the "clouds" were popped up on foam tape to add dimension to the tree. The Spring character was stamped in versamark ink onto kraft cardstock.

Here is a snap of the Asian character stamps:
